Day 5: A picture of a tiny dancer from up high

Today I went on my artist date with myself. I got the idea from the author Julia Cameron's book The Vein of Gold. For about a year now I have taken the time once a week to rev up my creative juices by visiting an inspiring place. Ethnic crocery stores are one of my favorite haunts because I love the exotic packaging. I visit bead stores, yarn stores, museums, resale shops, used book shops. What I am always hoping for is to fall down the rabbit hole. I want everything to become curioser and curioser.

My date today was at a resale shop just around the corner. There I found this adorable ballerina figurine in perfect condition. She was made in Japan and looks like she's probably from the 1950s. I adore her and have named her Vera. She looks like a Vera to me. Her red hair makes me smile and she has flirty long lashes.

My photo challenge today was A High Angle. So, I put some pink toile on top of my washing machine, stacked Vera on top of a pink hat box, put some flowers behind her, then stood on a chair to take the picture. I kind of like the effect.

At the resale shop today I found a lot of daisy merchandise. That happens sometimes. Somebody donates an entire collection of themed merchandise. Even though I adore daisies, so much so that my dog is named Daisy, I didn't buy any of the daisy themed merchandise. Maybe I'll go back in the morning to get this candleholder I can't get out of my mind. The thing is, whenever I go back to buy something I left behind, it's never there. It's true, you never regret what you buy, only what you didn't buy.

There were all kinds of items with daisies on them: picture frames, candleholders, plates, glasses, pillows, a purse, shoes, even scarves. The most unusual daisy themed item I found was a yellow chiffon halter dress in a size 22. A bunch of adorable silk daisies were attached to the satin waist band. I have  to admit my imagination was working overtime.

Did the size 22 woman collect all of that daisy stuff? Why did she give up her collection? Had she passed away and her family gave all the stuff to charity? Maybe she lost a lot of weight and didn't want any daisy items to remind her of when she'd been big. Who knows? I love the msysteries I discover at the thrift shops.
